Rise and shine, Buffalo! Let’s get this Saturday started off right. Here’s everything worth knowing today in Buffalo.

First, today’s weather:

Bitterly cold with low clouds. High: 12 Low: 4.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Buffalo:

  1. Forecasters say Buffalo could get up to 18 inches of snow from a winter storm that is expected to center on the city this weekend. The current domestic model of snow totals shows that places such as Springville, Warsaw, and Batavia could see as many as 20-25 inches of snow through Monday. A Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for the entire Western New York region beginning at 6 p.m. on Sunday, and officials are urging drivers to use caution. (wyrk.com)
  2. An Erie County Sheriff’s deputy was treated and released from the hospital after possibly being exposed to fentanyl during a traffic stop Thursday night. During the stop on the I-190 near Long Road, officers discovered that the driver, 34-year-old Andrew Wills, was in possession of crack cocaine and heroin. While handling the seized narcotics, the deputy began showing signs of exposure to fentanyl. Another deputy immediately administered narcan and the stricken deputy was taken to ECMC. (WGRZ.com)
  3. Workers at three more Buffalo-area Starbucks stores will vote on whether to join a union.
The National Labor Relations Board gave the green light for union elections at the stores at Walden Avenue and Anderson Road in Cheektowaga; Sheridan Drive and North Bailey Avenue in Amherst; and Transit and French roads in Depew. The NLRB said ballots will be mailed to workers on Jan. 31 and must be returned by Feb. 22 in order to be counted. (Buffalo News)
